Rustic Italian ring cookies from L'Aquila, in the heart of Abruzzo, made with Italian flour, white wine, oil and fresh eggs, and finished with a light crust of sugar. Crisp, delicate and lightly sweet, they are a classic of Italian countryside baking.
Do they taste like wine? No. The wine is part of the dough and bakes away, leaving a light, crisp texture and a clean, simple flavor. In Italy, children and grandparents enjoy them alike.
How Italians enjoy them. With coffee or tea, or the traditional way, dipped in a small glass of wine after dinner.
Perfectly imperfect. Every ciambellina is shaped by hand, so no two rings are the same. What never changes is the weight: every box holds at least 220 g, and usually a little more.
Like all real baked goods, they have a naturally short shelf life, which is why we bring them in fresh batches.
